Recycled rugs

  • ​Locally made from recycled materials of corduroy, denim and wool.
  • Hand woven using the ancient warp-weighted loom technique.
  • Reversible and washable.

​Like new pillows

  • ​Gently-used feather pillows are refurbished with an energy and waste efficient technology.
  • Feathers and down are sterilized and deodorized.
  • An ozone-emitting ultraviolet light kills any allergy-causing bacteria.
  • Each pillow gets a brand new crisp, cotton cover. 

​The City of Iowa City’s first annual Climate Action at Work awards program pinned Crowded Closet
first place winner in the Sustainable Lifestyle category. The Closet recycles donations which can’t be resold.
​In 2019, this totaled 16.3 tons of metal and 81.6 tons of cloth and paper goods.
The committee also applauded the shop’s 10% decrease in energy usage realized
​from implementing energy-efficient features in our new building.
